Our PR department seems to love what they do, they get paid well (salary + commissions). I’m the accountant, so I know what they get paid.
What I do know is that companies I’ve worked for in the past that have hit hard times tend to begin layoffs in the PR/Marketing department, because management feels that it’s unnecessary or they can do it themselves.
I would suggest working with a well established company or getting your feet wet with a smaller one and then moving on.
