Democrats struggle with online questions

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Democratic presidential hopefuls struggled Monday night to answer questions posed by young, Internet-savvy voters who challenged traditional political labels and the candidates’ own place in a broken political system.

It took three tries to get Clinton to answer the same questions. She finally said American ground troops don’t belong in the fight because they are overextended in Iraq.

She also refused to call herself a liberal. “I prefer the word progressive, which has a very American meaning,” she said.

Since Al Gore created this whole Internet thing, you know, wouldn’t that give them some kind of advantage?

Progressive = Socialist… It’s the latest ‘buzz word’.

  2. peachsurprize Says:

A candidate is just a person, lots of public contact helps them get an idea what the people want.. maybe she didnt have that idea because it was a newly posed question.
They are just people no one is perfect.. dont expect perfection just expect quality. And positive intentions to do well.

  3. Ali B Says:

Because they can not answer real questions from real people. They are not prepared. They have no clue of our reality, only theirs.

  4. hillaryhasno Says:

    still with the platitudes…

progressive means in george soros’s pockets.

.I am sure they will hail her presence and intelligence..lol
while Jim Crow complains about Condeleeza having an
    important position in Bush’s cabinet

They are too used to being spoon fed by CNN. I think it’s funny. Yeah, she’s progressive if it means liar.

  6. StormDevil Says:

The voters ask tough questions. The same thing happens to Republicans. Don’t kid yourself. No matter what the party, this is lying season anyways. So why bother asking them anything at all?

why dont we count our eggs after next months debate?

  8. Mike C Says:

Because the questions are not scripted. They can’t match the talking points to answer impromptu questions on the fly. CNN is not holding their hand.

  9. Jon B Says:

They have trouble with the internet questions, for the same reason they won’t do a debate on Fox, they want bland questions, that their staff approves of, because they don’t want to have to actually tell people what they want to do. The liberal or progressive agenda turns off the majority of American voters, and they want to avoid alienating the majority of the country.

It’s just the usual from them…Can’t answer questions from young, feisty internet users, or from the media. No surprise here! Liberal, Progressive, same thing!

  11. republicansrstupid Says:

because dems don’t yet have a universal phrase that covers all questions comparable to the reps universal phrase of “just trust us”.

  12. wyldfyr Says:

I think the candidates did a pretty good job, considering the quality of some of the questions.

    Wassup?” came the first question

“Can you as politicians … actually answer questions rather than beat around the bush?”

To Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois: Are you black enough? “You know, when I’m catching a cab in Manhattan … I’m giving my credentials,” he replied.

To Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York: Are you feminine enough? “I couldn’t run as anything other than a woman,”

Quit repeating urban legends. Nobody believes them anymore.

Your remark about Al Gore aside, I have to say that I’m rather annoyed by Hillary’s decision to label herself a “progressive” instead of a “liberal”. As much as people try to use “liberal” as an epithet, I’m proud to call myself one and I like its various associations (personal freedom, openness to new ideas, and social progress, for example). Hillary is clearly just another politician who will say anything to get elected. That being said, though, I may still vote for her, since she’ll probably be the lesser of two evils.

Socialist DEMOCRATS *Never* I repeat, *Never* want to admit they’re in the wrong!

Why? Well it all has to do with their first name!

  15. justanotherjoe Says:

Doesn’t she know to be president, she actually has to have leadership skills? Answers must come faster even if she is wrong. Just get the socialist ***** in the corner and ask her for the truth. She’ll break.

  16. GIVRO Says:

I was surprised by Hill’s performance tonight. Thought her people would have reviewed the questions in advance (they only had to search youtube) and prepped her a bit more.

In addition I was surprised to hear that the reason the USA shouldn’t be in Iraq is because we are overextended (I read that as “it’s too hard”). I thought she was against the war in Iraq because “Bush lied”?
