My boyfriend told me that he’s interested in joining the Naval Reserves, last night. I’ve been a complete wreck since. I need information about the reserves, how they work, how they are different from the active forces, the chances of being deployed, will he be able to do the job he wants to, how can one be deployed if they only do 1 weekend a month? He’s 25 with a college degree in marketing but has been out of work the past 2 months. He wants to do Media Relations work at the base in the city where we live. Apparently he thinks he’s just going to walk in to this position at this particular base with no risk of being deployed. After talking with several people at work today, they’ve stated that this is def not the case. They said that recruiters will say anything you want to hear to get you in the door but it’s never true afterwards. I was also told that reserves are the first to go overseas to Iraq and the like. Can somebody please provide me with accurate info? I’m a crying mess!
I recently graduated with a degree in Media Studies. This includes broadcasting, video/audio production, Public Relations, Advertising and Journalism. Going online searching for job listings isn’t working. I can’t find a job at all. I need a pay check real soon. Any real ideas that will get results??

I started a company that offers an online service for profit. After branding the business registering a domain and building a website, I found a web presence offering similar services offline with a trademarked name similar to mine. For example, my website has a name like “Widgets Gadgets Web” and a domain name like “widgetsgadgetsweb.com”. The trademarked name would be like “WidgetsGadgets” (one word), but the two word version is a very common term that is not trademarked. I registered the domain based on knowledge of the common term, with no knowledge of the pre-existing trademark. I have already invested quite a bit in branding & pr materials before discovering this potential show stopper. Am I in violation of US trademark law?
Van Jones can rant against whites with no media scrutiny, but a white person making comparable comments would be boiled in oil. Sotomayer, Gates and Wright are also examples of racists who express racial prejudice without penalty. The media acts very childishly in handling race issues. Adults know all races have have individuals with bitter feeling against other races.
The only conclusion that one can logically come to is that the media has a strong liberal bias and uses race relations to advance its bias and political goals.
I recently was moved into the Communications/Marketing department at my work. It’s going pretty well so far — I am a great writer and good at organization & getting things done. However, I feel a bit unnerved with all the mingling and “PR” – ing. I am more of a practical person than a schmoozer … not to mention I’m an introvert and kind of quiet.
What are some good tips to help me get used to the transition so I can be good at my job?
I understand that I need to … I just want some tips on how to be better at it. Such as good ways to make conversation with strangers, how to figure out what to talk to who about, and so on.
