Hello!
I had a question regarding careers in the field of marketing and advertising. Currently, I’m majoring in communications with a specialization in advertising, marketing, and public relations.
The program is very broad, as it includes a number of different courses in television production, radio production, journalism, and–of course– advertising, marketing, and public relations.
I’m really just wondering if companies would hire someone with a bachelors in communications with that specialization.
I know that I would probably be better off getting a degree that’s specific to that field, but a little more than one-third of the degree is going to be marketing & advertising, and I will still be somewhat knowledegable about television and radio production.

Yes, there are jobs. While you are still in school arrange as many internships as you can…working directly for companies. Most universities have such agreements set up. This will greatly improve your odds of finding a job after graduation…in fact many grads stay on and are hired full time from these internships. If you enjoy this combination of coursework, continue on…you may have to relocate, but a job is possible! GOOD LUCK! (college prof)

I can assist with this and hope it helps you become more knowledgeable. YOU used a “key” word many corporations, businesses at all levels, deny employment opportunity, very “BROAD”. Although, a degree is a cherished accomplishment many students overlook “value” for their “hard work”. No longer is just graduating from college a “ticket” to employment but “degrees” have become extremely important in regards to ones “major” and/or courses of study.
“Communications” is one of these mentioned. Others may include Psychology, Business Admin, etc. Ever watched a college football game in the beginning showing who is playing with their “major”. What is number 1, Communications. Why? Considered a non-difficult major due to content, courses of study.
YOUR most valued asset will be “specializing”, as indicated.
Good Luck, stay positive. Call businesses YOU may have interest as you graduate for guidance on degrees as well.
YOU MUST MAINTAIN 3.0 GPA.
