From IT to Public Relations. HOW?


I quit my job from an IT company lately that I spent almost 3 years and honestly I didnt find myself in that job at all, and now I wanna move to PR but I dont have experience but I have the Communication & Computer skills.. I dont know what to do and how to approach and change my resume to meet PR Firms… I would like a good advice plz?

    I don’t think it will be easy to break into PR without previous experience or an education background in Communications. If I were you and really want to do this career move, I’d take a few classes at a community college which will show potential employeers that you are (possibly) working toward a degree in that field.

    The best way for you to get answers to your questions is to attend the next local. Public Relations Society of America event. (aka PRSA)

    Second, join linked in and ask your question there. The quality of answers you get and the chances you’ll get an answer from either a recruiter in PR or a PR person is much higher.

    I would assume that getting writing samples together would be important. PR is very much about writing and 95% of entry level jobs require samples.

    It seems like using a) education b) a stepping stone job. (ie an IT-ish job in a PR firm) Perhaps the nature of IT jobs in a PR environment would be different.
