How did you get started in Graphic design?

I am thinking about leaving education and using the digital media side of my degree. I have done a few logos and posters for small private businesses. I have been job hunting..but would like to know ..how did you other graphic artists find your jobs. ..are agencies a consideration…???
Any skills in particular I need to consider adding in addition to
adobe creative suite, desktop publishing, and some public relations/communications ..?

If you are looking to add to your skill list, web design is a biggie in the industry, especially with the migration of most media/news/advertising going online. You should also be sure to learn (master) the entire Creative Suite (Illustrator and inDesign particularly).

As for work, agencies are good, but might have higher standards as far as training and experience goes. You should look into other businesses that are looking to hire an in-house graphic designer as well.

    Hope this helps!
