is double majoring in communications and english a good choice to go into public relations?


hello,

im thinkin about going into public relations. i really enjoy writing and being creative. i **** math i enjoy working with people. Is going into public relations a good career to pursue? is it something in demand? is it rewarding? what kind of traits do you need to have?

Im thinking about majoring in communications even though i dont enjoy public speaking but im pretty good at it as ive been told. but i do enjoy writing and would want to pursue a public relations career thats why i want to double major in that and english.

    In general yes, but the communications is going to prep you for public relations more than english.

    Instead I wouldn’t double major, unless you’re only 1 or 2 classes away from the major. Chose the minor in English.

    A minor in English is always handy. However, let me make one other suggestion that would make you a strong candidate for a PR position, and give you an advantage over the competition.

    As a VP at Silicon Valley PR firm I haired several people with degrees in Philosophy. I found that the critical thinking skills that they had developed perusing their degree were invaluable. They were the best account mangers out of all the AMs on staff. Also, after their time at the agency their careers far outstripped their colleagues.
