PR is a competitive field. Since you will graduate with a great deal of preexisting professional experience, your chances are better that you will land a job within the PR field. A lot of graduates with a degree in PR never land a job in PR because they give up after an unsuccessful job search that went too long. They end up taking jobs in other fields. But you have to be patient. Expect your job search to take at least three months no matter what part of the country you live in. Your best bet right out of college is with an agency or firm. They tend to have a lot of turn over (for a reason) and always have entry level positions that need to be filled. Start there and build upon your experiences. It will be a stressful environment and you will want to quit…even swear off the profession as a whole. You’ll start to wonder why you ever chose PR. But, after you’ve “paid your dues” you’ll have the experience to move on to a sector or industry that interests you more. I worked in an agency setting for three years and I learned that I like higher education. Now I worked from one of the biggest universities in the country. It takes patience. Learn what you can while you can. Good luck!
